CBI Arrests Proclaimed Offender in 2021 West Bengal Post-Poll
Violence Murder Case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), today, i.e., 11.08.2026, has arrested Proclaimed Offender (PO) Gopal Das @ Bishal Paul from Rabindranagar, Madhyamgram, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, in 2021 Post-Poll Violence murder case.
The accused was at large since registration of FIR in 2021, and he never joined investigation/trial. For his arrest, the CBI had announced Cash Reward of Rs.50,000. He has been arrested by the CBI based on human intelligence and technical inputs.
The CBI registered the instant case on 25.08.2021, in compliance of order of the Hon’ble Calcutta High Court dated 19.08.2021, by taking over Narkeldanga PS FIR No.124/2021 relating to alleged murder of Avijit Sarkar on 02.05.2021 at Sitalatala Lane, Kolkata.
After completion of investigation, the CBI filed chargesheet and supplementary chargesheets against 38 accused persons in 2021 and 2025, including Gopal Das @ Bishal Paul as well as Paresh Pal (the then MLA of TMC) and the then TMC Councillors – Swapan Samaddar and Smt. Papiya Ghosh, under different sections of IPC. The case is under trial in the Court of Ld. City Sessions Court, Calcutta.
The arrested accused Gopal Das@ Bishal Paul was produced before the Competent Court, Calcutta on 11.08.2026, which remanded the accused to Judicial Custody.
