Aadhaar Free Update Extended Until June 2025
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced the extension of the deadline for free updates of Aadhaar details. As of Saturday, the last day to update Aadhaar information without any cost is now set to June 14, 2025. This is an extension from the previous deadline of December 14, 2024.
Starting June 14, 2025, there will be a charge for offline updates at Aadhaar centers. It’s important to note that this complimentary service is exclusively available on the myAadhaar portal.
The UIDAI stated: “UIDAI extends free online document upload facility till 14th June 2025; to benefit millions of Aadhaar Number Holders. This free service is available only on the myAadhaar portal. UIDAI has been encouraging people to keep documents updated in their Aadhaar.”
Importance of Aadhaar
The Aadhaar number is unique and cannot be duplicated, as it is linked to an individual’s biometric information. This system plays a crucial role in identifying and preventing counterfeit or nonexistent identities, thereby reducing leaks in government programs. By eliminating duplicate and fake Aadhaar numbers, the government can allocate more resources to deserving residents, thereby expanding benefits to a wider population.
How to Update Aadhaar Online for Free
Updating your Aadhaar details online is a straightforward process. Follow these steps to ensure your information is current:
- Go to UIDAI’s official website.
- Navigate to ‘My Aadhaar’ and select ‘Update Your Aadhaar’.
- Go to the ‘Update Aadhaar Details (Online)’ page and click on ‘Document Update’.
- Enter your Aadhaar number and Captcha code, then click ‘Send OTP’.
- Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
- Choose the details you want to update (e.g., name, address, date of birth).
- Enter the updated information and upload the necessary documents.
- Once your request is submitted, you’ll receive an Update Request Number (URN) via SMS to track the status of your update.
