President Ram Nath Kovind has appointed Sushil Chandra, the senior-most Election Commissioner, as the Chief Election Commissioner of India. Mr Chandra will assume the charge from 13th April 2021. Before his appointment to the Election Commission, he was the chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes CBDT.
