Mumbai: On Navy day ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ celebrations inaugurated

Every year, 4th of December is celebrated as Navy Day to mark the decisive Indian victory over Pakistan in 1971 through Indian Navy’s Operation Trident. Inaugurating the ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ celebrations on Navy Day, Flag Officer Commanding in Chief of the Western Naval Command, Vice Admiral Ajit Kumar dedicated the ‘Gaurav Stambh’ to the nation. The monument is set against the ramparts of Bombay Castle in the Naval Dockyard. It depicts a submariner, a surface warrior and a naval aviator to represent all three dimensions of the Indian Navy and is inscribed with a sanskrit shloka from the Bhagwad Gita. As per the defence statement, the monument commemorates victory at sea and is a tribute to the grit, valour and fortitude of all deployed personnel of the Western Naval Command.
