India needs to scale up its daily COVID testing by 10 times: CCMB Director

India has to scale up its daily COVID testing by 10 times to control the current speed of spreading of Coronavirus in the country. Though the mortality rate is very low compared to other countries, there is an urgent need for controlling the speed in its spreading. Hyderabad based Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) Director Dr Rakesh K Mishra says
that the current level of daily COVID testing should be increased besides the Social Vaccine. Otherwise, he says the present medical facilities will be short of tackling the situation. CCMB Director Dr Rakesh K Mishra informed AIR correspondent that the Virus is spreading at a very high speed and decreasing its speed and immediate detection of infections are the solutions
available currently. Dr Rakesh Mishra further informed that the CCMB Scientists have analysed more than two thousand SARS-Corona Virus genomes from the country to understand the various strains in circulation. He further says the distinct Virus population, called A3i, found earlier in the month of June is disappearing slowly and the A2a has become dominant clade everywhere. At present 70% of all Indian as well as global SARS-CoV-2 genomes fall into this clade. He felt social vaccine which include wearing mask, sanitising hands and maintaining physical distancing will hold good.
