India’s COVID-19 recovery rate touches 90 per cent:

India has crossed a significant milestone in its fight against COVID, as the recovery rate reached 90 per cent yesterday. Over 70 lakh patients have recovered from this highly infectious disease in the country so far. The active caseload of the country has also fallen below 8.5 per cent. The total positive cases in the country today stands at 6, 68, 154 which comprises merely 8.49 per cent of the total reported cases. With a high number of COVID patients recovering every day along with a steadily falling and sustained low mortality rate, India’s trend of decreasing active cases continues. The recovered cases are nearly 10.6 times more than the active cases. Nearly 62 thousand patients recovered and were discharged in the last 24 hours whereas the new confirmed cases reported in the same time span stood at around 50 thousand. The Health Ministry said that enhanced countrywide medical infrastructure, implementation of the Centre’s Standard Treatment Protocol by all the States and Union Territories and total dedication and commitment of doctors, paramedics and frontline workers have led to a persistent increase in the number of total recoveries in the country. It said, this has also led to a commensurate dip in the fatality rate which stands at 1.51 per cent.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged the people of the country to give priority to local products while shopping during this festive season. Mr Modi asked everyone to remember the resolve of Vocal for Local. The Prime Minister said the whole world is becoming a fan of Indian products and products like Khadi have the potential of becoming global.

Addressing the nation through his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme on All India Radio this morning Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the country has given a befitting reply every time to the forces which continuously try to sow the seeds of suspicion in people’s minds, and divide the country. He gave the motto of ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’, Mr Modi urged everyone to visit the website – ekbharat.gov.in. The Prime Minister also asked people to share recipes of local food items along with the names of the local ingredients, on the ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’ website.

Festival of Dussehra celebrated across India:

The festival of Vijaya Dashmi and Dussehra, which marks the triumph of good over evil was celebrated today amid COVID-19 restrictions. In the National Capital Delhi, effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkarna and Meghnad were burnt in different places but with a very little attendance of people due to restrictions. Navratri festivities also came to an end today. This year, amid the pandemic, Delhiites participated in virtual Pushpanjali for Durga Puja and celebrated festivities in a scaled-down manner from home. The grounds where Ramlilas are staged and the Durga Puja Pandals wore a deserted look. The Durga Puja festivities will conclude tomorrow with the
immersion of idols.

Bangladesh government orders ‘no mask, no service’ policy:

The Bangladesh government has decided that no service will be provided to people who don’t wear masks. The cabinet meeting Chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina decided that no one will be allowed to enter offices without the mask. It decided that all offices must install notice boards saying ‘no mask, no service’ in order to control the spread of COVID-19 virus in the country.

Donald Trump votes in Florida as Presidential election enters in final week:

In the US, with the presidential election entering its final week, President Donald Trump is gearing up for a series of rallies across key battleground states. Meanwhile Democrat Joe Biden is sticking to his socially-distanced drive-in events. Donald Trump has also cast his vote. He voted at a library in West Palm Beach, Florida Yesterday morning. Vice President Mike Pence and his wife Karen also voted early in Indianapolis on Friday. According to a media report, some 57 million votes have already been cast.
