India to receive development assistance loan worth Rs3,500 Cr from Japan to fight COVID-19: Japan has committed an official Development Assistance loan of 3 thousand500 crore rupees for the COVID-19 Crisis Emergency Response Support.The Notes were exchanged between the Additional Secretary in theDepartment of Economic Affairs Dr C.S. Mohapatra and Ambassador ofJapan to India Suzuki Satoshi for a Health sector programme loan to fight the COVID-19 crisis. Subsequent to the Exchange of Notes, Loan Agreementfor the programme loan was signed between Dr Mohapatra and Chief Representative of JICA in New Delhi Katsuo Matsumoto. Japan InternationalCooperation Agency, JICA is a governmental agency that coordinates Official Development Assistance for the Government of Japan. This programme loan aims to support India’s efforts in fighting COVID-19 and to prepare the health system to manage future epidemics and also to improve the resilience of India’s health systems against infectious diseases.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal addresses US-India Strategic Partnership Forum through virtual conference: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has invited the US business and industry to work with their Indian counterparts to take the bilateral trade to greater heights. Addressing the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum through a virtual conference today, Mr Goyal said the two democracies share deep commitment with each other, at the Government, Business and people to people levels. He said both countries believe in free and fair trade, and the US is India’s largest trading partner. Mr Goyal expressed confidence that the two nations can be the resilient trusted partners in the global value chain.

Dept. of Fertilizers to observe Swachhta Pakhwada from 1st to 15th September: The Department of Fertilizers is observing Swachhta Pakhwada from 1st to 15th September. All Public Sector Undertakings and other Organisations under the Department are participating in the Swachhta Abhiyan. Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said that Swachhta Pakhwada has gained even greater importance this year in view of the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. He said that the efforts of the entire fertilizer industry, dealers and traders will yield visible positive results in the country’ sendeavour for cleanliness.

Rajeev Kumar assumes charge as new Election Commissioner of India: Mr Rajeev Kumar today assumed charge as the new Election Commissioner of the country. A 1984 batch IAS officer, Mr Kumar retired as the Finance Secretary. Mr Kumar joins the Election Commission of India with Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora and Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra.

Karolina Pliskova advances in straight sets at U.S. Open: Top-seeded Karolina Pliskova has advanced in straight sets at the U.S. Open. Pliskova surged ahead of Anhelina Kalinina 4-1 in the opening set, lost three games in a row, then took the last eight for a 6-4, 6-0 victory. Pliskova is ranked third in the world but has the top seed in New York. Pliskova, who has won 16 WTA titles, next faces unseeded Caroline Garcia of France.
