Bombay High Court hears Arnab Goswami’s habeas corpus plea

A division bench of Bombay High Court today heard Habeas Corpus plea of senior journalist Arnab Goswami, who was arrested yesterday in a connection with abetment to suicide case by Raigad Police. Journalist’s advocate submitted before the court that the arrest is illegal and argued that opening a case by Police through suo Moto action is an insult to the magistrate and judiciary. A division bench of Justice S S Shinde and Justice M.S.Karnik, after arguments by Goswami’s advocates, allowed them to amend their petition and add Informant in the plea after senior advocate Harish Salve requested the court to grant him leave to amend the plea.
On Court’s observations to hear reply from other parties, Defence advocate responded that Naik family has to approach the magistrate court, not the High Court directly if they wish the case to be reopened. Goswami is currently under judicial custody till November 18th along with other two accused in this case.
