RBI launches three surveys to inform monetary policy on inflation expectations and consumer confidence

The Reserve Bank of India has announced the launch of three surveys designed to feed inputs into its monetary policy process. The exercises concentrate on inflation expectations and consumer confidence across the country.

The Inflation Expectations Survey of Households will collect individual views on price movements. Concurrently, the Urban Consumer Confidence Survey and the Rural Consumer Confidence Survey will assess public sentiment regarding current and anticipated economic conditions in urban and rural areas, respectively.

According to RBI, the objective is to obtain timely measures of how households foresee inflation and how confident consumers feel about the economy, data that can inform policy deliberations on demand dynamics and price risks.

Publishers, taxpayers, businesses, investors, and regulators may find the results useful as they reflect evolving consumer expectations and confidence, which can influence financial conditions, pricing strategies, and policy responses in the near term.
