RBI Governor’s Statement On Issuance Of Green Bonds

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das spoke on Monday regarding government green bonds. He said that the decision regarding the government green bonds announced in the budget will be taken next month. According to news agency PTI, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said in her budget speech that the government would issue bonds to raise resources for green infrastructure. 

Das told reporters after the finance minister’s address to the RBI board that the monitoring group on cash and debt management will meet next month and plan to issue green bonds. According to tradition, after the budget, the Finance Minister addresses the Board of Directors of the Reserve Bank. He said that there are many such investors who have a separate fund for investing in green bonds. In view of this, it was decided to bring green bonds. That is, when you issue a green bond… its purpose is clear and it is for a different purpose.

Target to raise Rs 11.6 lakh crore from the market 

The government has set a target of raising a record Rs 11.6 lakh crore from the market during the financial year 2022-23 to meet its expenditure requirements to give impetus to the economy affected by the COVID-19 epidemic.
