Countries like Russia, Germany, France, Britain increased income tax, excise duty, health related taxes, but we neither increased any tax last year nor did any increase in tax this year.

During the discussion on the Finance Bill in the Lok Sabha, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that we have imposed customs duty on umbrellas to encourage and benefit MSMEs. Apart from this, he said that the corporate tax cut helped the economy, government and companies. Corporate tax collection of Rs 7.3 lakh crore has been made so far in the current financial year. He said that the base of taxpayers was 5 crore a few years back, which has now increased to 9.1 crore.
