The officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), intercepted a passenger at Lucknow Railway Station and seized 1.202 kg foreign-origin gold valued at Rs. 1.73 crore, in an intelligence-led operation on 08.10.2026.

The passenger, travelling from Kolkata to Lucknow, had allegedly attempted to evade detection by travelling without a ticket and switching trains between DDU and Varanasi. The gold, comprising three chains and three small cut pieces, was concealed in a knee support wrapped around his leg. In his statement, the passenger disclosed that the gold had been smuggled into India from Bangkok and was to be delivered at Lucknow.

The gold was seized under the Customs Act, 1962, and one person has been arrested.
