Protecting Yourself from International Scams and Fraudulent Activities
A close connection of ours recently fell prey to a scam and lost a staggering Rs. 3 lakh. Here’s what transpired:
Shortly after returning from a trip to Hong Kong, our friend was astounded to receive two late-night notifications about Rs. 72k being debited from his bank account for purchases at an Adidas store. The next morning, he discovered that this had occurred four times, amounting to Rs. 3 lakh!
The fraudsters had duplicated his card and utilized it for tap payments in Hong Kong. Thankfully, the bank agreed to reimburse half the amount due to his account being insured. However, authorities were unable to pursue the case as it involved international fraud.
As a vital precaution, it’s crucial to disable international transactions when not in use to prevent falling victim to a similar scheme.
If there are any potential avenues for recovering the remaining half of the amount, please inform us.
