Assorted Foreign currencies of various denominations totally worth Rs. 50.71 Lakhs seized by Chennai Air Customs
Based upon a specific information, five passengers viz. Shri Najirudeen s/o Shri Mohamed Kasim, Shri Raja Mohammed s/o Shri Mohammed Razik & Shri Jahir Hussain s/o Shri Buhari (bound for Dubai by Emirates Flight No. EK-547), Shri Vishnushagar s/o Shri Panneer Selvam (bound for Colombo by Air India Flight No.AI-273) & Shri Absar Ali s/o Shri Salahudeen (bound for Bangkok by Flight No. TG-388) were intercepted by the AIU officers. Upon personal search, assorted foreign currency notes of various denominations totally valued at INR 50.71 Lakhs were found concealed in their check-in baggages and footwears. The same were seized under the Customs Act, 1962.
Further investigation is under progress, according to a press release issued by K.R.Uday Bhaskar, Pr.Commissioner of Customs, Chennai International Airport.
