Based on specific information, Chennai Air Customs officers intercepted one male passenger who arrived from Kuala lumpur by Indigo Airlines flight 6E 1818 on 06.01.2023. 

On examination of his person, gold in paste form concealed inside the waist band was found resulting in recovery of 760 grams of gold of 24K purity valued at 37.14 lakhs, which was seized under the Customs Act, 1962.

In another incident, Chennai Air Customs officers intercepted two female passengers who were bound to Colombo by Indigo Airlines flight 6E-1207. On examination of their persons, assorted foreign currency concealed inside their undergarments was found and recovered. The recovered foreign currency was valued at 38.47 lakhs which was seized under the Customs Act, 1962.

In total gold worth 37.14 lakhs and Foreign Currency worth 38.47 lakhs was recovered and seized under Customs Act, 1962. Further investigation is under progress, according to the Press Release issued by Shri K.P.Jeyakar. Additional Commissioner of Customs Chennai International Airport.
