17, 913 kgs of seized narcotics destroyed by Field Formation of the CBIC in Siliguri

Field formations of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) organized the destruction of a whopping 17,913 kgs of seized narcotics yesterday on June 8, 2022 in Silliguri. This was part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav events being organised by CBIC as Iconic Week from June 6 to June 12, 2022 under the aegis of the Ministry of Finance. Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Union Government to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements.  The seized drugs that were destroyed yesterday in Siliguri had been intercepted in the region by the field formations of the CBIC over a long period of 10 years (from 2004 to 2014). These seizures were testimony to the hard work and achievements of the field formations like the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and the Commissionerate of Customs (Preventive), West Bengal in thwarting the nefarious designs of the narco traffickers. Keeping in mind the strategic location of Silliguri, where the majority of the drugs had been seized, and the nature of narco trafficking, there was a distinctly national as well as an international paradigm to these enforcement activities.
