In a significant move aimed at bolstering healthcare access for its residents, the Delhi government has approved the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), and has further enhanced the scheme by doubling the coverage to ₹10 lakh. This decision, reached during the first cabinet meeting of the newly formed government, promises to provide a robust safety net for vulnerable families across the capital.

The Ayushman Bharat scheme, a flagship initiative of the central government, aims to provide financial protection to over 50 crore poor and vulnerable individuals across the country. It offers cashless treatment for a wide range of medical procedures at empanelled public and private hospitals.

Key Highlights:

  • Implementation of Ayushman Bharat: Delhi government officially adopts the national health insurance scheme.
  • Doubled Coverage: Beneficiaries will receive a total health cover of ₹10 lakh (₹5 lakh from the central government and ₹5 lakh from the Delhi government).
  • Enhanced Access: Increased coverage will provide access to a wider range of medical treatments and hospitals.
  • Focus on Vulnerable Populations: The scheme aims to protect economically weaker sections from financial hardships due to medical emergencies.

The Delhi government is expected to release further details regarding the implementation of the scheme, including the eligibility criteria and the list of empanelled hospitals, in the coming days.
