Taxpayers who have e-filed Income Tax Return for the assessment year 2020-21, to verify their ITR to avoid becoming a non-filer Will happen. If one does not verify the ITR then TDS will be applicable at higher tax rate at source. The extended date for ITR verification or e-verification is February 28, 2022. Income Tax India tweeted that “Please verify your ITR filed for AY 2020-21 today, if you haven’t verified it yet!

Last Chance of ITR Verification
The Income Tax Department said, if you have not done your ITR verification, then the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) is giving you the last opportunity to complete your ITR compliance. Income Tax India tweeted, “Have you verified your ITR after filing? Don’t miss the last opportunity to verify your ITR for AY 2020-21.”

How to E-Verify ITR

  • Visit https://www.incometax.gov.in.
  • Under Quick Link, select the option of e-Verify Return.
  • Select the option ‘I would like to verify using OTP on a mobile number’ and click ‘Continue’ on the e-verification screen.
  • Select ‘I agree to validate my Aadhaar details checked on the Aadhaar OTP screen’ on the Aadhaar OTP screen and then click on ‘Generate Aadhaar OTP’.
  • Click on ‘Validate’ after entering the 6-digit OTP sent to your Aadhaar-registered mobile number.
  • OTP received on mobile is valid for 15 minutes. Three chances will be given to enter the correct OTP. On the screen you will see an OTP expiry countdown timer which will inform you when the OTP will expire.
  • A page with a success message and a transaction ID will open. Keep the transaction ID with you for future use. Your email address and mobile number confirmation message will come.

Income Tax Return (ITR) Refund Status


Meanwhile, the CBDT issued refunds worth over Rs 1,82,995 crore to over 2.07 crore taxpayers from April 1, 2021 to February 21, 2022. Income tax refund of Rs 65,498 crore and corporate tax refund of Rs 33,818.97 crore have been issued in 2,04,44,820 cases. Income Tax India tweeted that Rs 1,17,498 crore has been released in 2,30,112 cases. This includes 1.67 crore refunds for AY 2021-22.
