The last date for filing income tax returns for the financial year 2020-21 was 31 December 2021, which has been extended to 31 March 2022 for the convenience of taxpayers. This means that taxpayers can file Income Tax Return with penalty till March 31, 2022. If you have not filed the return even by this period, then the Income Tax Department can take action against you.
However, most of the salaried people are those who have filed ITR on or before 31st December 2021. Such taxpayers are now waiting for their refund. The reason for the delay in refund was a technical problem in the new portal of Income Tax. However, the department is now issuing refunds to the taxpayers at a faster rate.
