Many taxpayers have recently received an email from the Income Tax Department titled “Transfer of Rectification Rights to the Jurisdictional Assessing Officer (JAO)”.

– Please note that this is not a notice, but simply an informational communication.

– It indicates that the Centralized Processing Center (CPC) has transferred the authority to handle your rectification request to your Jurisdictional Assessing Officer.

– This step is generally taken when CPC is unable to process the rectification accurately, and hence, human intervention is required.

– You can now approach your AO directly for rectification of your Income Tax Return (ITR) for the relevant assessment year.

– The communication includes details of your JAO like email ID, ward, and office address.

– If you’ve received such an email, there’s no cause for concern. It’s just an update from the department informing you where to route your rectification request going forward.

– Feel free to reach out to your tax consultant for guidance on how to proceed with the rectification before the AO.
