Barring ITR-1 and ITR-4, the income tax department has yet to release the Excel utilities for other income tax forms. Although the deadline for submitting income tax returns is still three months away, having been extended to September 15, taxpayers are eagerly awaiting the release of these utilities.

Some taxpayers have voiced their concerns on social media. For instance, a user named Raisaar took to the X platform to urge the introduction of ITR-2 and ITR-3. Chartered accountant Himank Singla also questioned the income tax department’s lack of communication regarding the timeline for the release of the Excel utilities.

Other ITR Forms

It’s important to note that the CBDT has notified the income tax return filing forms (ITR-1 and ITR-4) via a notification dated April 29, 2025.

For those unfamiliar, ITR-1, or Sahaj, is intended for residents (excluding those who are not ordinarily residents) earning up to ₹50 lakh, with income sourced from salaries, one house property, other sources, long-term capital gains under section 112A up to ₹1.25 lakh, and agricultural income not exceeding ₹5,000.

ITR-4, referred to as SUGAM, is specifically designed for individuals, Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs), and firms (excluding Limited Liability Partnerships) who are residents and have a total income up to ₹50 lakh, with income from business and profession calculated under sections 44AD, 44ADA, or 44AE, and long-term capital gains according to section 112A up to ₹1.25 lakh.
