~~Acting Chief Justice R Mahadevan of the Madras High Court has received a prestigious promotion as a judge of the Supreme Court, following a decision by the collegium. His vacant position will be filled by Justice K R Shriram, who currently serves at the Bombay High Court.
According to a notification issued by the Supreme Court on Thursday, the collegium expressed its confidence in Justice Mahadevan’s qualifications, considering his judicial work and seniority at the High Court. Despite being the third most senior judge, after the Chief Justices of the Calcutta and Meghalaya High Courts, the collegium prioritized Justice Mahadevan’s appointment to ensure representation for the backward community, adding diversity to the Bench.
