Advisory on Updates to E-Way Bill and E-Invoice Systems
Starting from 1st January 2025, there are significant updates to the E-Way Bill and E-Invoice systems that taxpayers need to be aware of:
- Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): This will become mandatory for taxpayers with an Annual Aggregate Turnover (AATO) exceeding Rs 20 Crores from the 1st of January 2025. For those with an AATO exceeding Rs 5 Crores, MFA will be required starting from 1st February 2025. All other taxpayers and users will need to comply with this requirement from 1st April 2025.
- E-Way Bill Generation: The generation of E-Way Bills will now be restricted to documents dated within 180 days from the date of generation. This aligns the validity period with standard documentation practices, ensuring compliance and timely transportation.
- Extension of E-Way Bills: The extension period for E-Way Bills will also see a change, now limited to a total of 360 days from their original date of generation. This aims to streamline the process and reduce the chances of malpractices.
Taxpayers should prepare for these changes to ensure compliance and avoid any disruption in their operations. For detailed guidance, refer to the official notifications or consult with tax professionals.
