In a move poised to revolutionize the Indian tax system, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) is readying to launch a state-of-the-art mobile application named ‘Samay’. This digital tool is designed to streamline the labyrinthine process of tax appeals, promising to cut through the red tape and deliver swifter resolutions.

‘Samay’ – A Beacon for Transparency

With ‘Samay’, officials can effortlessly monitor and track the status of pending orders at every step of the litigation journey – from the adjudicating officer to the Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (Cestat), and even up to the High Courts. Beyond this, ‘Samay’ also offers visibility into the status of review orders currently in the pipeline or pending at the commissionerate level.

Aiming for Efficiency

According to CBIC officials, the introduction of ‘Samay’ is expected to significantly decrease the time consumed in litigation. By keeping a sharp eye on pending orders, the application nudges officials to take timely actions on tax appeals. This innovative approach ensures a more efficient and effective management of the litigation process, a critical component of the Indian tax system.

Unveiling ‘Samay’

While ‘Samay’ promises a new dawn in tax appeal tracking and litigation management, its formal introduction to officials will take place on January 15. The application will provide a comprehensive summary of all cases and rulings, guiding officials regarding legal positions and aiding in the reduction of the average pendency of cases in Cestat. As India steps into a new era of digital governance, ‘Samay’ stands as a beacon for transparency and efficiency.
