The cancellations, including discontinuation of business operations, were revealed in data shared by Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary in the Rajya Sabha.

Among the major reasons cited for the cancellation of GST registrations since the financial year 2021-22 were discontinuation of business operations, the death of business proprietors, and failure to furnish returns. Additionally, other factors leading to GST registration cancellations included the merger or amalgamation of businesses, non-compliance with provisions of the law, changes in the constitution of businesses, invalid bank accounts, and registrations obtained through fraudulent means or through wilful misstatement or suppression of facts.

Notably, the data revealed that the GST registration of over 48.58 lakh businesses across the country has been cancelled in the last three years, indicating a significant impact on the business landscape due to various operational and regulatory factors.

In conclusion, the significant number of GST registration cancellations in Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and UT Chandigarh serves as a reflection of the diverse challenges faced by businesses, ranging from operational disruptions to regulatory non-compliance. The impact of such cancellations reverberates throughout the affected regions, underscoring the need for a conducive business environment and robust compliance mechanisms to support the sustained growth of enterprises.
