The Protocols of the Articleship Journey
Chartered Accountancy is a course wherein a student is required to undergo for 3 years of articleship to gain the practical exposure of academics. It therefore becomes a crucial part of the journey which helps the student to become ready to face the business world.
To leverage this period, it is therefore advisable that a student should take it from the perspective of learning motive and seeking knowledge.
Articleship training inculcates the discipline, skill set and practical know-how which are the key factors in any business environment. However it depends upon the mindset and perspective of the student trainee as to how constantly polish his/her skills.
Here are the few articleship Protocols which are recommended-
Planning is the essence of any work. One should envisage the desired output and accordingly assign the apt inputs. As a man of prudence, one should be equipped with backup plan too.
Using the planner, one must proceed considering the deadlines for each work. Rigorous follow up should be adopted throughout the year in order to avoid bottlenecks during end of financial year.
Communication is the key to get the work done. One should ensure to use right channel of communication, marking the right person and at the right time.
To ensure consistency in work, one should follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and try to frame SOPs when any new assignment is being worked upon for future reference.
At some point of time, we have to pass the baton to our juniors so one should take the responsibility to guide them in and out of clientele with patience, making them appreciate the correlation between practical exposure and theoretical knowledge.
6. Stay abreast of
The course involves subjects which gets amended frequently such as Law (with notifications and compliance related matters), Direct Tax (Finance Act for each Previous Year) and GST which is in its nascent stage (Frequent council meetings wherein outcome is giving effect to via issue of circulars). It therefore becomes important for one to stay updated on these areas which will help one to stay relevant in these dynamic times.
7. Three P’s
Punctual, Proactive, Professionalism are the 3 P’s which helps one to maintain discipline in his/ her life, enables one to take the lead and to maintain work life balance.
It will surely be a gradual process of developing ones mindset and skillset so do remember,
“Give your best and learn from the process of becoming.”
