Government of India Launches Surya Ghar Yojana
The Government of India has recently introduced the Surya Ghar Yojana, a pioneering initiative aimed at promoting the adoption of solar energy among residential consumers. This scheme offers individuals the opportunity to secure loans for the installation of solar rooftop systems in their homes, thereby contributing to the nation’s sustainable energy objectives.
State Bank of India (SBI), one of the leading financial institutions in the country, is actively participating in this program, providing loans with favorable terms to facilitate the implementation of solar rooftop projects. As per the official information released by SBI, the initial interest charged on loans for setting up solar rooftop systems up to 3 kW under the Surya Ghar Scheme is 7.00 percent.
To illustrate the financial implications of availing such a loan, consider the following scenario: If an individual decides to obtain a Surya Ghar loan amounting to ₹ 2 lakh from SBI, repayable over a period of 120 months, the estimated Equated Monthly Installment (EMI) would approximate to ₹ 3,960. Consequently, the total interest payable over the loan tenure is projected to be a sum of Rs 37,614.
Under the ambit of the PM Suryaghar Scheme, which falls within the broader framework of the Surya Ghar Yojana, provisions have been made to extend support for the installation of solar rooftop systems ranging from 3 kW to 10 kW. Beneficiaries are eligible to obtain loans of up to Rs 6 lakh to facilitate the realization of their solar energy aspirations.
The Surya Ghar Yojana stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to bolstering the renewable energy sector and fostering environmentally sustainable practices across the nation.
This article aims to provide an overview of the key features and financial implications of the Surya Ghar Yojana and the associated loan offerings by SBI. Individuals interested in availing these benefits are encouraged to visit the official sources for detailed information and guidance.
