Railways hikes fares, extra 1-2 paise per km, effective from Dec 26.
Indian Railways has announced a fare hike for long-distance travel. The revised fares will come into effect from December 26, 2025.
The new fare breakdown
For journeys longer than 215 km, the following marginal increases apply:
A small increase of 1 paisa per kilometer: For Mail & Express Trains (Non-AC)
A hike of 2 paise per kilometer: For
Air-Conditioned (AC) Coaches
All AC classes (3A, 2A, 1A) will see an increase of 2 paise per kilometer
Who is NOT affected?
Indian Railways has intentionally protected daily commuters and short-distance travelers from this hike:
Suburban (Local) Trains: No change in fares.
Monthly Season Tickets (MST): No change in prices.
Short Journeys: No hike for ordinary class travel up to 215 kilometers.
