NHSRCL has invited bids for procurement of 24 E5 Series Shinkansen trainsets costing around Rs 11,000 crore, as the government targets to run the first such train on the Gujarat stretch of the Ahmedabad-Mumbai corridor in 2027, a TOI report mentioned.

An Invitation of Proposal for procurement of the trainsets for the project has been issued by National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHRSCL), said a spokesperson.

“Estimated cost for the rolling stock (trainsets) cannot be disclosed as IFP has been invited,” the spokesperson added. According to the TOI report, the companies will have to submit their bifs by October-end. Each Shinkasen trainset will have 10 coaches and can accomodate 690 passengers. The trainsets will be modified to meet the Indian conditions such as harsh hot weather and omnipresent dust.

“The cost of Mumbai-Ahmedabad Hight Speed Rail Project as per feasibility report is Rs 1.08 Lakh crore. The actual cost of the project can be ascertained after finalisation of all the contracts and completion of land acquisition process,” said NHSRCL spokesperson, in response to a question on the revised cost of the total project.
