The public has a question for the Reserve Bank of India that who is it portraying in its advertisements and why and where has it come from?
Is this a symbolic depiction? If yes, then what does that animal symbolize? Is it the symbol of the system on whose shoulders lies the moral responsibility of clean and safe banking or the ministry that should shoulder the responsibility of safe banking.
If this is what the RBI is trying to show to the public, then it is vulgar as well as unethical. The public can also file a defamation suit for this. If this is what the RBI is trying to show, then such a negative attitude of the bank towards its account holders is not only objectionable but also highly condemnable. The Banking Association of India should also take disciplinary action on this and the Advertising Standards Council of India should also prove that it is an active institution, not a silent spectator.
RBI should alert and caution the public not through such advertisements but by streamlining its system and by running awareness campaigns on banking literacy and banking alertness among the public.
The Finance Ministry and RBI should immediately take cognizance of this matter as this is a very serious issue of ‘dignity and prestige of the person guaranteed by the Constitution’ and not a ridiculous topic to be made fun of.
