A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court has instructed the State government to finalize the selection of members for the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Appellate Tribunal within a four-month timeframe. The order was issued by the Bench, comprising Acting Chief Justice A. Muhammed Mustaque and Justice S. Manu, while disposing of a public interest litigation related to the expeditious establishment of the council as per the provisions of section 112 of the Central Goods and Services Tax Act of 2017.
The government pleader informed the court during the hearing that steps were already in progress for setting up the council and that the selection process was underway. With the government’s submission recorded, the court directed the completion of the selection process within the stipulated four-month period before disposing of the petition.
