Tamil Nadu Extends GST Return Deadline in Light of MICHAUNG Cyclone

In an act of understanding and support in the wake of recent natural disasters, the Government of Tamil Nadu has stepped in with a major relief measure. In response to the devastation caused by the MICHAUNG cyclone in early December 2023, the Government of Tamil Nadu has decided to extend the deadline for monthly GST returns.

According to Press Release No. 2570 dated December 20, 2023, this measure is intended to alleviate some of the pressure on the mercantile public. The due date for submitting Form GSTR-3B for November 2023 was originally December 20, 2023. However, this has now been extended up to December 27, 2023. Specifically, this extension applies to taxpayers whose principal business place is located in the cyclone-stricken Revenue districts of Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, and Kancheepuram.

Furthermore, it worth noting that, no late fees or interests will be charged on the taxpayers from these districts for filing GSTR-3B return for November 2023, provided they meet the extended deadline.

This act of support from the government is a much-needed relief for businesses already grappling with the effects of a severe cyclone. The financial impact of such a natural disaster is difficult to bear, and this measure will help business owners recover and rebuild.

This decision is an example of how a government can adapt its policies to meet the changing circumstances and needs of its citizens. By helping businesses in this way, the Government of Tamil Nadu is sending a message: we are here, we are with you, and we will get through this together.
