Debabrata Dutta Captured in Chit-Fund Fraud Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Debabrata Dutta, a key suspect in a chit-fund scam involving Rs. 17.2 crore. Declared absconding in December 2022, Dutta was apprehended on August 28, 2026, in Siliguri, West Bengal, following a Non Bailable Warrant issued in August 2024.

CBI ARRESTS ABSCONDING ACCUSED IN CHIT-FUND SCAM CASE

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Debabrata Dutta, an absconding accused in a chit-fund scam case.

The accused, then proprietor of M/s DNB Food Processing Pvt. Ltd., in criminal conspiracy with others, had misappropriated the funds to the tune of Rs. 17,22,39,453, illegally collected from gullible depositors. The accused was absconding and did not cooperate with the investigation. He was declared absconder in the chargesheet filed on 26.12.2022 in case no. RC 10(S)/2014-Kol for commission of offences u/s IPC and Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes Banning Act, 1978. Non Bailable Warrant (NBW) was issued against him on 05.08.2024.

The accused was traced on the basis of source information and finally has been arrested on 28.08.2026 from Siliguri, West Bengal. He is being brought on transit remand from Siliguri and will be produced before the Competent Court in Bhubaneswar.
