50 Tonnes of Illegal Metals Seized by Delhi Officials

The Delhi GST department, in collaboration with railway officials, seized approximately 50 tonnes of illegal copper worth about Rs 6 crore and two tonnes of aluminium ingots valued at Rs 4 lakh from a freight train. The metals lacked valid e-way bills and invoices, prompting further action under GST rules.

50 Tonnes of Illegal Metals Seized by Delhi Officials

New Delhi, Aug 13 (PTI) Delhi Goods and Services Tax (GST) department in a joint operation with railway officials seized around 50 tonnes of illegal copper and two tonnes of aluminium ingots being transported in a freight train without valid e-way bills and invoices, an official statement said on Thursday. The estimated value of the seized copper is around Rs 6 crore while the aluminium ingots are valued at around Rs 4 lakh, it said. According to the department officials, during inspection of parcel cargo express train, the raiding team found the metals without valid documents were loaded in three wagons of the train that originated from Yashwantpur in Karnataka. Further action in the matter was being carried out in accordance with GST rules, it added.
