New Delhi: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following intense political developments and controversy surrounding the administration of the NEET-UG examination.
In an emotional public statement shared via his resignation letter, Pradhan detailed the sequence of events and the challenges faced by the Ministry during the recent examination cycle.
Key Highlights of the Announcement
- NEET-UG Irregularities and Re-examination: Pradhan noted that irregularities came to light in the NEET-UG examination held on May 3, 2026. Taking immediate cognizance, the central government handed the case over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), cancelled the exam, and announced a re-test. Furthermore, it was decided to conduct the exam in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode starting next year.
- Whole-of-Government Approach: Over 2 million students appeared for the re-examination, which was successfully concluded on June 21, 2026, with coordinated efforts from central, state, and district administrations alongside the support of parents and students.
- Results Declared: The NEET-UG results were announced on July 16, 2026, bringing success to numerous meritorious students from underprivileged backgrounds.
- Decision to Step Down: Citing recent tensions and disturbances surrounding protests at Jantar Mantar and across the nation—and wanting to prevent anti-national elements from exploiting the situation or affecting students’ futures—Pradhan chose to tender his resignation to ensure that students can remain focused entirely on their studies and careers.
- Gratitude: Pradhan expressed his profound gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his visionary leadership, guidance, and continuous support, while also thanking his ministerial colleagues, ministry officials, and staff.
