New Delhi, June 2, 2026 : Even as over seven crore active members of Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) are awaiting to know when they can expect to get credit of annual interest of 8.25% for financial year 2025-26 in their EPF accounts, millions of subscribers are getting worried whether they are losing money as interest has not yet shown up in their account.

A lot of people are worried that they are losing money due to interest not being credited in their account but this is not true. According to officials and experts the delay is normal and does not lead to any loss to account holders.

Interest on Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) is calculated on the basis of the monthly running balance in the EPF account throughout the year. Therefore, even though actual credit entry in passbook may be late, full interest is credited to the account of subscriber and he does not suffer any loss on account of delay in credit of interest.

Financial experts pointed out that EPF interest is calculated on the basis of the monthly running balance in the EPF account throughout the year. So although the credit entry in the EPF passbook might be shown later, the member would get the full interest he or she is entitled to. Thus, there would be no loss of interest due to delay in accounting procedure.

Historically EPFO releases the interest credits in accounts in between June end and September end after all the approvals and account reconciliation are carried out in full. There can be odd exceptions where there are administrative constraints as well.

You can check your account online through EPFO portal. Your EPF passbook containing details of your updated account is available on EPFO’s other official services also. All the interest credited to EPF accounts of members would be reflected in their online passbook.

With over seven crore active subscribers EPFO continues to remain one of the highest interest rate bearing savings instrument amongst Government backed savings schemes, aimed at creating huge wealth for salaried employees of India to enjoy in their retirement life.
