Elon Musk’s Tesla Launches First Showroom in India: Pricing Details for the Model Y
Tesla, the electric vehicle company founded by tech mogul Elon Musk, has officially opened its inaugural showroom in India on July 15, located in the upscale Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) of Mumbai, within the Maker Maxity Mall.
As reported by Reuters, Tesla aims to compete with established luxury car brands like Mercedes-Benz and BMW in India’s burgeoning premium electric vehicle (EV) market. Although EVs represent a relatively small segment, India ranks as the world’s third-largest automotive market, with domestic brands such as Tata Motors and Mahindra dominating traditional petrol and diesel offerings.
Initially, Tesla is set to offer only its Model Y SUVs in India with ambitions to introduce additional models as demand grows. The first deliveries are anticipated to commence on August 1. Here’s what you should know about the vehicle being introduced:
Which Tesla Models Will Be Available in India?
Currently, Tesla will be focusing solely on the Model Y. According to Carwale, the company has transported six units of the Model Y SUV from its Shanghai production facility to Mumbai for display and demonstration.
Interestingly, Tesla’s entry-level model, the Model 3, will also be showcased but is expected to enter the Indian market later in 2025.
Tesla Sets the Price for Model Y, Deliveries Begin in August
The retail price for the Model Y is projected to start at approximately $69,770, which translates to over ₹59.87 lakh, as per Reuters and information from the Tesla website. In comparison, the car is priced at $44,990 in the U.S., 263,500 yuan (around $36,700) in China, and 45,970 euros (or $53,700) in Germany.
For the time being, Tesla is focusing on the Model Y SUVs in India, with plans to expand its offerings as sales increase, aiming for initial deliveries to begin from August 1.

The Tesla Model Y will mark the debut of the U.S.-based company’s electric vehicles in India.
